Friday, August 26: 

  • Retrospect perform at the Bethesda Metro Station Plaza from 6 to 9 p.m. Free.
  • Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square features Soul Gravity playing acoustic rock at 6:30 p.m. Free.
  • Wrap the work week up with Gaithersburg’s Zumba in the Park at the City Hall Concert Pavilion at 7 p.m.
  • The National Players present Hamlet at 7:30 p.m. Performance is outdoors at the Root Family Stage. Tickets are free, but are recommended.
  • AFI Silver Screens free outdoor film series continues with Back to the Future in downtown Silver Spring’s Veterans Plaza.
  • Landless Theatre Company in partnership with Arts on the Green present the The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 27: 

  • If you are in the market for a car, check out the monthly police vehicle auction today from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Police Vehicle Recovery Facility in Gaithersburg.
  • Celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service at Constitution Gardens on The National Mall with a family fun day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • AFI Silver Theatre is hosting classic Looney Tunes cartoons this month on weekend mornings at 11:15 a.m.
  • Adventure Theatre presents Jumanji at Glen Echo Park at 11 a.m., 2 and 4:30 p.m.
  • The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre hosts an open house for children ages 3 to 6. The open house, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., includes free sample classes.
  • The Sandy Spring Museum is hosting a Mushroom Tasting conducted by the Mycology Association of Washington at 2 p.m. Must register.
  • The National Players present Hamlet at 7:30 p.m. Performance is outdoors Root Family Stage. Tickets are free, but are recommended.
  • Landless Theatre Company in partnership with Arts on the Green presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 8 p.m.
  • The Root Boy Slim All Stars present Boogie Til You Puke at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club at 8 p.m.

Sunday, August 28: 

  • Adventure Theatre presents Jumanji at Glen Echo Park at 11 a.m., 2 and 4:30 p.m.
  • AFI Silver Theatre features Warner Brothers’ Looney Tunes cartoons this month, presented on 35 mm prints on the big screen.
  • Landless Theatre Company in partnership with Arts on the Green presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 2 p.m.
  • The National Players present Hamlet at 7:30 p.m. Performance is outdoors at the Root Family Stage. Tickets are free, but are recommended.
  • Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club present Conya Doss at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
