- Montgomery County Agricultural Fair continues through Saturday, August, 20. Fair Gates open from 10 a.m. – midnight. Carnival open from noon – midnight.
- Shop Maryland Tax-free Week continues today throughout the state.
- I and I Riddim perform at the Bethesda Metro Station Plaza from 6 to 9 p.m. Free.
- Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square features Justin Trawick & The Common Good at 6:30 p.m. Free.
- Wrap the work week up with Gaithersburg’s Zumba in the Park at the City Hall Concert Pavilion at 7 p.m.
- The Hipocrites, a Chicago-based repertory company, present The Pirates of Penzance rotating with The Mikado at Olney Theatre. While performances continue through Sunday, August 21, all remaining shows are sold out.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club present an evening of The Nighthawks beginning with the premiere of a documentary film about the Bethesda Blues band, the area debut of Chicago’s North Avenue Stompers and then a set with The Nighthawks.
- The National Players present Hamlet at 7:30 p.m. Performance is outdoors at the Root Family Stage. Tickets are free, but are required.
- AFI Silver Screens free outdoor film series continues with When We Were Kings in downtown Silver Spring’s Veterans Plaza.
- UpCounty Theatre presents Love & Kisses at the BlackRock Center for the Arts at 8 p.m.
Saturday, August 20:
- The Great Outdoors Festival takes place at Little Bennett Regional Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festival includes a full day of outdoor activities, games, hands-on learning, music, food and fun.
- Last day of Shop Maryland Tax Free for back to school purchases.
- AFI Silver Theatre is hosting classic Looney Tunes cartoons this month on weekend mornings at 11:15 a.m.

- The annual outdoor film festival to benefit NIH Children’s Charities takes place at Strathmore this year with three films on consecutive nights. Tonight’s movie is Jurassic World.

- Olney Theatre presents Sounds of Summer 2016 concert at 8 p.m. featuring Tracy Lynn Olivera, Bobby Smith and Rachel Zampelli singing classic American songs.

- AFI Silver Theatre features Warner Brothers’ Looney Tunes cartoons this month, presented on 35 mm prints on the big screen.
- The Comcast Xfinity outdoor film festival to benefit NIH Children’s Charities presents Minions tonight. The Wizard of Oz will be shown Monday night.
- The National Players present Hamlet at 7:30 p.m. Performance is outdoors at the Root Family Stage. Tickets are free, but are required.
