We Love Weekends: Montgomery County Planner for Oct. 19 – Oct. 21

Festivals continue around the county this weekend. The World of Montgomery Festival celebrates the diverse cultures of the county with traditional arts, multicultural music, food, dance and hands-on activities representative of 12 countries. Korea is new to the festival this year. The festival takes place Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Rockville Campus of Montgomery College from noon to 4 p.m.

Rockville’s Antique and Classic Car Show includes more that 550 cars on the grounds of the Rockville Civic Center Park Sunday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event

Friday, Oct. 19

Artist Talk

Meet and visit with artists Shanthi Chandrasekar and Susan Goldman at the opening reception for the Immemorial exhibit. The exhibit will be on view in the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery through Dec. 7. The reception takes place Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gallery located on the first floor of the Silver Spring Civic Building.  creativemoco.org. Free.

Allan Harris  Award-winning vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Allan Harris performs his version of jazz tradition. A Q & A with Harris and Willard Jenkins, Artistic Director of the DC Jazz Festival, follows the concert to bring you closer to the heart of jazz. Labour of Love  Directed by Leora Morris this comedy by James Graham is set in a member of Parliament’s district office and tells the story of the ups and downs of left-wing British politics over the past twenty-five years. Unfolding over decades, the play reflects a shifting political landscape in the heartland that echoes similar developments in America as progressives seek the road back to power. Through Oct. 28 at Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Olney.  olneytheatre.org. $42 and up.

Contra Dance Contra dance is a type of folk dance for all ages and a social dance.  You do not need to bring a partner. There is a beginner’s lesson from 7:30 pm – 8:15 pm which is included in the price of admission. Saturday, Oct. 20

How I Learned to Drive  Directed by Amber Paige McGinnis, playwright Paula Vogel chronicles a woman’s journey to break the cycle and silence of sexual abuse. As an adult survivor who was abused by her Uncle Peck at age 11, Li’l Bit’s attempts to unravel her emotions and memories. Sunday, Oct. 21

Antique and Classic Car Show  More than 550 antique and classic automobiles will be on display from 32 car clubs. From Packard to Ferrari, 32 car clubs are represented during this grand event while auto collectors and enthusiasts share the fond memories of the classic cars of yesteryear. The show also has a flea market and car sales area. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event. Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville. rockvillemd.gov. Admission is free

World of Montgomery Festival  The festival, in its 10th year, celebrates the many diverse cultures of Montgomery County residents through traditional arts, multicultural music, food, dance and hands-on activities. The featured countries in this year’s festival include Grenada, Bolivia, Nigeria, Iraq, Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, Korea, Ethiopia, China, El Salvador, and India. The “International Village” includes free activities, crafts, traditional art demonstrations, and performances representative of each country. Oct. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at Montgomery College Rockville campus. worldofmontgomery.com. Admission and activities are free.

Eve Ensler & Anne Lamott  Playwright Eve Ensler joins author Anne Lamott for a passionate and humorous conversation on the provocative issues that they’ve courageously brought out of the shadows throughout their careers.  Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda.  strathmore.org. $38-$88.
