Flow-Verse Open Mic :  BlackRock presents a monthly open mic for performers under 25. Artists perform with professional equipment and technicians in front of a positive and supporting audience.  Thursday, August 29 at 7 p.m. Note: performance sign up opens at 6:30 p.m. BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown. Cabaret: Based on the play by John Van Druten and music by John Kander, this musical is set in 1929 Berlin. The main character Cliff arrives in Berlin to work on his novel but is swept up in the life of the cabaret. Kensington Paint the Town Art Show: The free, three-day event includes a judged art show of hundreds of pieces of artwork made by local artists, an awards ceremony and reception that’s open to the public, three days of live art demonstrations, plein air painting competitions for adults and children, and a special student invitational art contest. 49th Annual Labor Day Art Show:  Presented by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, the exhibition features the work of more than 200 artists from the mid-Atlantic region. Let it Flow: Washington, DC’s Let It Flow band blends contemporary jazz, neo-soul, R&B, modern hip-hop, and old-school grooves. With innovative sounds and instrumental virtuosity, Let It Flow is a collective of talent that demands attention. Note: There will be a dance floor in the front of the stage. Gaithersburg’s Labor Day Parade: Wisdom Martin, FOX 5 DC news anchor, joins the parade as Master of Ceremonies. This year’s Grand Marshal is 2019 Distinguished Citizen Janet Neumann. Kensington’s Labor Day Parade and Festival:  The parade starts at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Park and travels down Connecticut Avenue toward Baltimore Street before turning back through the heart of Kensington. As the parade winds through Kensington, Armory Avenue and Mitchell Street will be filled with food trucks, a beer and wine garden, live music, a moon bounce, and tents full of fun and entertainment.
