Washington Gas Light Company Requests Service Rate Increase, Public Hearings to Come
Washington Gas Light Company, which serves 489,000 customers in Montgomery, Prince George, Calvert, Charles, Frederick and St. Mary’s counties requested public comment hearings in light of their plans to increase gas service rates. According to the company’s proposal, a typical residential heating customer’s gas bill would increase by approximately 5.5% if the application passes.
In total, gas service rates would increase by nearly $36 million, of which $5.1 million is currently being collected from customers through a system improvement surcharge.
The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold two public hearings, so that community members can comment on the matter. The first hearing will take place Monday, July 29 at 6 p.m. at the Montgomery County Council Office Building, 3rd Floor Hearing Room. The second hearing will take place Tuesday, August 6 at 6 p.m. at Prince George’s Community College in the Largo Student Center, Rennie Forum.
The commission regulates gas and electric utilities, telephone companies, certain water and sewage disposal companies, passenger motor vehicle carriers for hire, taxicab companies and more.
