Here Are the Events Offered by Montgomery Parks for Veterans Day Weekend

Montgomery Parks has numerous family-friendly events planned for the Veterans Day weekend and a special discount for Veterans as well as active-duty military.

Friday

The Montgomery Parks offices and permits offices will be closed Nov. 10. The following parks are open:

• Brookside Gardens—10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Locust Grove Nature Center—9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Black Hill Nature Center—11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Meadowside Nature Center—9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Brookside Nature Center—9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Woodlawn Museum—10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Wheaton Tennis—8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Pauline Betz Addie Tennis—6 a.m. to 12 a.m.
• Wheaton Ice Rink—5 a.m. to 12 a.m.
• Cabin John Ice Rink—5 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Saturday

Awesome Acts of Science  Discover the fascinating world of science with these hands-on experiments.  10 a.m. at Black Hill Nature Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds. Cost is $2, registration not required.

Underground Railroad Guided Hike  Guided hikes last approximately 2.5 hours and are provided by talented “conductors” who lead groups on a simulated Underground Railroad experience covering 2.0 miles from Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park along a wooded, natural surface trail to the historic Sandy Spring, then back to experience the new Woodlawn Museum and Visitor Center. 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, 16501 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring. Cost is $8, register here.

Slime Time Kids and science lovers of all ages are invited to come and create their own slime. Noon to 3 p.m. at Brookside Nature Center, 1400 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton. Cost is $6, registration is not required.

Make It and Take It: The Wild Robot Can a robot survive in the wilderness? Inspired by the book “The Wild Robot,” make a craft and see just what a robot can do on its own.  1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Black Hill Nature Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds. Cost is $2, no registration required.

Sunday

Veterans Special Skates  Montgomery Parks is offering free ice skating during public skating sessions for military men and women. Offer is open to all military personnel (veterans and active duty) and their families.
Cabin John Ice Rink, 8:30-10:30 a.m., 12:30-2:30 p.m., 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Wheaton Ice Arena, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 3-5 p.m.
