Rockville Woman Struck Crossing North Washington Street

A 57-year-old woman was struck crossing North Washington Street in Rockville on Tuesday, a Montgomery County police statement said.

Dena Elise Balistocky of the 200 block of North Washington Street was struck by a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by Chinthaka Chaturan Amalage Don, age 24, of the 600 block of Diamondback Drive in Gaithersburg, police said.

Balistocky was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

She was crossing the southbound lanes of North Washington Street about 5:26 p.m. in the area of Dawson Avenue when she was struck by the Corolla, police said. Don’s Corolla was traveling south on North Washington Street, police said.

Officers from the Rockville City Police Department, and fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene, police said. County police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Detectives continue to investigate the collision, to include Balistocky’s direction of travel, what the traffic signal indicated at the time of the collision, and whether Balistocky was in the area of the crosswalk, police said.
