USPS Taking Another Nickel to Send a Letter
It’ll cost an extra nickel to send a letter. The U.S. Postal Service raised rates from 50 cents to 55 cents — a 10 percent increase.
Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail also increased by almost 10 percent, the biggest price increase in USPS history. The increase went into effect Sunday. According to USPS, price changes are based on market conditions.
The cost to send a box went up 70 cents. But the cost to mail a postcard has stayed the same.
The USPS announced the rate increases in October. “The Governors [of USPS] believe these new rates will keep the Postal Service competitive while providing the agency with needed revenue,” the postal service said in a statement then.
