Unity Walk Will Bring Faith Communities Together

Faith communities from across Montgomery County are partnering with the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington and the County Executive’s Faith Community Advisory Council to host a resource fair and unity walk on Oct. 8.

The resource fair will include voter-registration opportunities; basic human rights information; getting involved with programs welcoming refugees and immigrants; and a Sukkah will be built for people to join in celebrating the Jewish Sukkot holiday that runs from Oct. 4 through 11, according to a news release.

Following the resource fair, officers with the Montgomery County Police Department will escort the unity walk.

The walk will feature seven houses of worship opening their doors to teach participants more about their faith traditions.

The People’s Community Baptist Church; Heritage Christian Church; Muslim Community Center; First Alliance Church; Transfiguration Episcopal Church; and the Cambodian Buddhist Society, are expected to participate in the fair.

Kick-off for the event begins at 1 p.m. at the Chinmaya Mission, 46 Norwood Road in Silver Spring and the walk begins 2:30 p.m.

Both events are free and parking will be available at Blake High School, 300 Norwood Road.
