Two Area High Schools Evacuated After Bomb Threats (Video)

UPDATED: Two Montgomery County public schools were evacuated Tuesday morning (April 29) following bomb threats, according to Montgomery County police.

Northwest High School in Germantown and Northwood High School in Silver Spring were evacuated following calls that were placed ten minutes apart, according to Montgomery Police Spokesperson Angela Cruz.

Lance Dempsey, principal of Northwest High School, sent an update to parents about the incident in an email Tuesday (April 29) afternoon.

“At 10:51 a.m., the police cleared Northwest High School for re-entry after investigating a threat made against the school. I want to commend our students and staff for following our evacuation protocols and procedures,” Dempsey writes.

“Based on the information we had from police this morning, we took appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff. The police are continuing to investigate who made this threat against the school. If you have any information please contact the police directly. We are now resuming our instructional day today and will have counselors and staff on hand to speak to any students who are concerned or upset,” she wrote in an email.

Montgomery County police are evacuating two high schools in Montgomery County after two bomb threats were received.

Police Spokesperson Angela Cruz said the first bomb threat, received shortly before 9:30 a.m., was directed at Northwood High School, which is located at 919 University Boulevard. The second bomb threat was received minutes later and directed at Northwest High School at 13501 Richter Farm Road in Germantown.

Cruz said police and fire rescue crews are on the scene and both schools are being evacuated as a precaution. Some students are tweeting photos of themselves out in the rain.

Montgomery County Public Schools has put a message out on Twitter that the “Northwood HS cleared to re-enter the school.”
