Twenty-Five Public Safety Officials to be Honored at Chamber’s Public Safety Breakfast

The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce will honor twenty-five Upcounty Police Officers, Special Operations Teams, Firefighters, and Paramedics at their 23rd Annual Public Safety Awards Breakfast.

This event honors our public safety personnel and first responders from Montgomery County Upcounty’s Fire Department, Police Departments, Office of Emergency Management, and Office of the Sheriff, who have exemplified extraordinary heroic actions and exceptional performance of their duties. The event will be held on Friday, July 13 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, Heritage Building, 16 Chestnut Street, Gaithersburg.

We think it’s so important to support our first responders. They protect us every day and we want to show them how much we appreciate their service.,” said Marilyn Balcombe, GGCC Executive Director.

This year we will recognize public safety officials from the City of Gaithersburg Police Department, Montgomery County Police 5th & 6th Districts, Germantown Volunteer Fire & Rescue Services and Montgomery County Public Schools Department of School Safety & Security in the following categories: Medal of Valor, Citation for Bravery, Distinguished Service Citation and Meritorious Service Citation.

The Chamber feels it is of the utmost importance to thank those who protect our homes, businesses, schools, and families every day.

Annually, over 200 business professionals, awardees, first responders, and guests gather to celebrate the achievements, outstanding service, and commitment to the community of those being awarded. This awards program provides the business community with an opportunity to publicly thank those who help maintain the quality of life in the Gaithersburg and Germantown areas.

We invite local businesses, elected & public safety officials & to come and join us as we recognize the heroic deeds of our local law enforcement and fire-rescue workers. These men and women go above and beyond the call of duty to serve our local community and we want them to know we appreciate them and their hard work.

Laura is the Director of Events & Marketing for the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce - a member-based organization of businesses that have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic, commercial and industrial progress in our communities. The area's economic well-being is a result of the caliber of work that is done by the Chamber. The Chamber has a major impact on business, income and future growth of the area. My position at the Chamber - Director of Events & Marketing - affords me the opportunity to plan quality events for our Members and market the Chamber is a variety of avenues. At the GGCC, we typically have around 30 events each year including: breakfasts, lunches, after-five's, ribbon cuttings and special events. The consensus is we have high quality events with good energy. In 2012, we had over 2,040 people visit our events. Most our events are free to Members so securing sponsorships for all events. Additionally, I am responsible for planning networking, overseeing the budget and marketing of all events in order to make them successful. Lastly, I coordinate all marketing and communication efforts of the GGCC including weekly email blasts, its quarterly newsletter, all social media platforms, media relations and community outreach.
