Trooper Injured in Crash on I-270 at Muddy Branch Road
A Maryland trooper was injured in a collision on I-270 north at Muddy Branch Road on Tuesday afternoon that backed up traffic during the afternoon rush hour.
According to a Maryland State Police Department news release, Sgt. Edward Witanowski was traveling northbound on I-270 when he observed a disabled motorist on the left shoulder. According to police, Sgt. Witanowski attempted to merge to assist the motorist when traffic stopped abruptly and he struck a Ford F250 in the rear. Police said after being struck the Ford F250 struck a Ford Focus.
Police said Sgt. Witanowski was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
His vehicle was towed from the scene, according to police. The two other vehicles were driven away, police said.
No other information has been released.
