Tour Dem Parks Hon!
Yes, I am back – it’s that time of year again – the weather is cooperating and my bike is in tune.
I kicked off the summer cycling tour with a quaint ride last Sunday around Baltimore City, called Tour Dem Parks Hon! The ride is put on by the Department of Recreation and benefits summer programs there.
My riding buddies and I chose the 35-mile loop which was one of four choices on the day. There were a 12, 25, 35 mile and a Metric Century (64 Mile) loop. The 35-mile loop takes you in a clockwise route starting at Carroll Park (exit 51 on I-95) just south of the Russell Street exit that leads to Camden Yards and Raven Stadium. It is situated next to the old Montgomery Ward Catalog warehouse location.
If you visualize Baltimore City as a clock – we started at 6PM and traveled west, north, east and finally south around the city. A total of 2,897 Ascent feet was traveled climbing around the Big “B” – I also descended 2,923 feet. Baltimore has some hills, hon!
Major Parks included Carroll Park; Gwynns Falls / Leakin Park; Forest Park GC; Cylburn Arboretum; Druid Hill Park; Wyman Park; Lake Montebello; Clifton Park; Patterson Park; and Federal Hill with passage through the former Memorial Stadium grounds, Fells Point, Little Italy, the Inner Harbor, past Ravens Stadium and home again, home again jiggity-jig to Carroll Park. Total time with the numerous rest stops added in was about four and half hours.
Here are some pics from the day.
See ya there next year, hon!
