“Thought Leaders” Brainstorm MCM’s Future Board (Photos)
It’s not often that a Board of Directors goes through a complete turnover. Yet that’s the challenge as well as the opportunity facing Montgomery Community Media (MCM). With new bylaws approved by the Board earlier this year, the process has begun to identify and recruit an entirely new Board of Directors for MCM by the end of 2013.
The next step in the process occurred July 11, as a small group of Montgomery County ‘Thought Leaders’ met at MCM to brainstorm potential candidates for board seats. This initial discussion group included: Ginny Gong, former MCM Board member, access producer and Director of Montgomery County’s Community Use of Public Facilities office; Frieda Lacey, former Deputy Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools; and Michael Subin, past Montgomery County Council President and current Executive Director of the Montgomery County Criminal Justice Coordination Commission. This group met with members of the MCM Board’s Executive Committee, and generated an initial list of candidates for the new board. The goal is to develop a diverse Board of Directors for MCM with a focus on strategy, fundraising, and other aspects of media and non-profit sustainability.
