Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 5

The Maryland Department of Health reported 69 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Wednesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 70,075.

Montgomery County recorded no new coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, so the death toll remains at 1,477 which is the highest in the state.

As of Tuesday, there were 63 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County.

Maryland Department of Health released new data on schools in the state with two of more COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. There are 52 schools reporting two or more COVID-19 cases. Of those 52 schools, two are located in Montgomery County. They are:

• McLean School in Potomac reports two cases.
• Rachel Carson Elementary School in Gaithersburg reports two cases.

The county has a rate of 2.08% for positive COVID-19 tests completed Tuesday, which is a decrease of 0.07 from Monday’s rate of 2.15%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than 22 of the 24 jurisdictions in Maryland.

With 1,477 fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 83,504 cases and 1,435 fatalities. Baltimore County has the third most cases and the second-highest number of fatalities in the state with 64,086 cases and  1,447 fatalities.

Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the most cases per capita with 99,4 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 97.5 cases per 1,000 residents.

Wednesday the state recorded 679 new infections bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 450,689.

There are currently 934 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Wednesday morning. Since Wednesday, April 21 the number of Marylanders hospitalized with COVID-19 has been decreasing.

Ten newly reported deaths were recorded Wednesday, bringing the state death toll to 8,622.

The state reported  3.71% of tests completed Tuesday were positive for COVID-19. This is a decrease of 0.11 from Monday’s rate of 3.82%.
