Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 3

Since Friday, April 30, the Maryland Department of Health has reported 159 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County — 68 Saturday, 49 Sunday and 42 Monday. The county’s cumulative case count is 69,964.

The county most recently reported that 99 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County as of April 19.

Montgomery County recorded one new coronavirus-related fatality since Friday, April 30. The death toll for the county is 1,477, which is the highest in the state.

The county has a positive test rate of 2.02% for Sunday, which is an increase of 0.16 from Saturday’s average rate of 1.86%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 23 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities (1,477) but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,429 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 83,310 cases. Baltimore County has the second-highest death toll with 1,442 fatalities and 63,835 cases.

Somerset County on the Eastern Shore has the highest per capita cases with 99.3 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 97.3 cases per 1,000 residents.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics for May 3

Since Friday, April 30, the state recorded 2,108 new infections — 939 Saturday, 649 Sunday, and 520 Monday. The increase on Monday was the lowest since March 2 when 468 new cases were recorded. The state’s cumulative case count is 449,509.

On Monday, the state reported 953 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus. COVID-19 related hospitalizations have been decreasing since April 20. On Sunday, the number of patients in the hospital with COVID-19 was 950 and the first time the number fell below 1,000 since March 28 when there were 970 Marylanders hospitalized with the disease.

Maryland recorded 50 new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, April 30 — 20 Saturday, 10 Sunday, and 20 Monday — bringing the death toll to 8,605.

The state reported a positive test rate of 3.69% for tests completed Sunday. This is an increase of 0.05 from Saturday’s rate of 3.64%.
