‘Taste the World’ Brings More Than 1,000 Visitors to Silver Spring (VIDEO)

The annual Taste the World in Fenton Village, a restaurant crawl event, brought more than 1,000 people to downtown Silver Spring.

The annual event, held on May 3, brought hundreds of people to support the local business in the community and have the chance to try a taste of the diverse ethnic restaurants that are part of the area.

MyMCMedia’s Aline Barros talked to participants, local business owners, and county officials about the fifth annual Taste The World in Fenton Village

“This Fenton Village area is just really growing with new restaurants almost every day week. … The Business community has actually said presente; [They] actually said we’re here in a big way,” said Reemberto Rodriguez, director of Silver Spring Regional Center.

This year the event featured 27 restaurants, free music, magic shows, theatrical performances, and meditation. Visitors traveled from restaurant to restaurant and for $2, $3, $4 or $5 can sample appetizers and tasting plates.

Instead of browsing from vendors in one central place, participants walk the community at their own pace to find out more about the area some people call the hidden gem of Silver Spring. After each stop, visitors got a stamp in their passport for a chance to win prizes.

The participants at this year’s restaurant crawl were Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant, The Big Greek Café, Fenton Café, Fire Station 1 Restaurant, Ghar-E-Kabob, The Greek Place, Jackie’s Restaurant, Kaldi’s Coffee Bar, Kefa Café, La Madeleine Country French Café , Langano Ethiopian Restaurant, Lesaac Ethiopian Café , Lotus Café, and Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant. Also, Manny & Olga’s Pizza, Odalis Bar and Restaurant, Pacci’s Neapolitan Pizzeria, Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza, Roger Miller Restaurant, Society, Thai Derm, Thai Market, Urban Butcher, The Urban Winery, Vicino Ristorante Italiano, Zed’s Café, Ethio Express Grill and Sligo Café.
