Street Beat: Cedar Lane Construction Begins

road construction 450 x 280  for sliderState Highway Administration (SHA) workers will close a section of Cedar Lane between Elmhirst Parkway and MD 355 (Rockville Pike) in Bethesda on June 6.

This temporary summer closure is necessary to accomodate the MD 355/Cedar Lane intersection improvement project.

Road crews are building a new entrance at Cedar Lane and Elmhirst Parkway for the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, and they are installing a new traffic signal, and replacing aging pipes underneath Cedar Lane within this work zone.

To complete the project, State Highway Administration (SHA) crews will redirect traffic around the work zone on Cedar Lane via an approved detour route of MD 355 (Rockville Pike), MD 547 (Strathmore Avenue/ Knowles Avenue) and Summit Avenue. Motorists should plan ahead and add extra travel time.

Electronic message boards are being located to this area to alert passing motorists of the temporary closure of Cedar Lane.

Pedestrians will be directed to safe crossing areas via orange construction signs, cones, barrels and fencing. Residents and travelers are advised that construction equipment may be loud and disruptive.

Officials with the SHA are asking area residents and commuters for their patience and cooperation while crews complete this work.
