State to Rehabilitate Md. 28 Bridge over Monocacy River
The Md. 28 bridge over the Monocacy River, less than a mile from the Montgomery County line, will be rehabilitated, the State Highway Administration said Monday.
Prep work will begin this month, and the repairs will begin in earnest by early August, an SHA spokeswoman said.
The steel truss bridge, constructed in 1931, is structurally sound, the SHA said.
The $7.5 million project will replace the driving surface, install a service road to maintain access to the river and park area, replacing sections of the bridge structure and repairing concrete bridge piers. Other work includes removing years of debris built up under the bridge, and cleaning and painting the metal surfaces on the structure.
MDOT SHA will install two temporary traffic signals at either of the bridge to alternate traffic throughout the duration of the project. About 9,300 vehicles cross the bridge daily. SHA’s contractor is Corman Kokosing Construction of Annapolis Junction.
Well, this is going to back up traffics to Frederick to the north and to Beallsville to the south. Why isn’t the work being done at night?
How do you propose they replace the concrete deck at night and have it back open in the morning? Bridge construction is a bit more complicated than ripping out old concrete and just pouring in new.
They have had all summer. But if it takes them as long to do this as it did to do Thurston or some of the others. Looking at 2 maybe 3 years…..
