State of the Air Report

trafficphotomarch11How healthy is your air? The American Lung Association’s annual State of the Air report is out today and Montgomery County gets some mixed grades.

The report reviews monitoring data on the two most common and harmful types of air pollution – ozone (smog) and particle pollution (soot) – and compiles a “report card” telling how much of each type of pollution is in the air where you live and breathe.

According to the ALA, this is important because both ozone and particle pollution can harm your health – even shorten lives.

So how did Montgomery County do? According to the report, Montgomery County gets a D for ozone pollution and an A for particle pollution.

The ALA suggests some ways to improve the quality of your county’s air, such as driving less, using less electricity and not burning wood or trash.

You can see the full results and methodology here and find out what you can do to protect yourself here.
