Springbrook Student Named High School Journalist of the Year

A Springbrook High School senior won the Michael J. Powell High School Journalist of the Year from the MDDC Press Association, which represents print and online media in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

Joel Lev-Tov took the top prize and received a $1,500 scholarship toward his college tuition. Lev-Tov is co-editor in chief of the Blueprint, which bills itself as “the official voice of Springbrook students.”

Carly Glass, the newspaper’s advisor, called Lev-Tov “dedicated,” and noted, “he has a drive for perfection in his writing.”

Lev-Tov seeks out challenges which “require him to investigate, interview and research while also ensuring that the content is relevant to his peers and high school audience.”

John Messenger, a senior at The Heights School in Potomac, earned second place for his work as editor in chief.
