Spring Break Fun!

It is starting to feel like spring. The snow is melting, birds are chirping and we just lost an hour due to daylight savings time. This can only mean one thing; it’s almost time for Spring Break Backpack Journalism! I would have to say it is a great way for teens to spend their spring break. It’s productive and fun! In this week long program, teens will become the reporter, camera operator and editor for their very own news story. This year we are partnering with Ingleside at King Farm and profiling some of their awesome residents. Students will have a lot of information and great stories to tell. It is going to be a great class and I very excited for this session! This class will be held April 6 -10 during MCPS Spring Break. Classes start at 10 am and end at 4pm. Spaces are limited and filling fast, so make sure you reserve your space today by signing up HERE. If you are not able to attend for spring break, make sure you check out MCM’s summer programs. We will be doing two sessions of Backpack Journalism and new this year, we will be adding MCM’s Youth Media Creators program which will have a weeklong Green Screen session and a PSA session. Sign up today for those programs HERE.

Also, we have launched our latest project of getting new ZOOM Q2HD cameras for our Backpack Journalism Academy with Power2Give. Please consider donating today to help our young journalists get the tools they need to tell their stories and let their voices be heard!
