Some “Times”

Some “times” I give myself a photo assignment.

One of many 150 Year later

Some “times” I am given one.

Some “times” I look forward to that repetitive assignment.

There are some times I photo shoot in the District, some times in Maryland, and some times in Virginia.

Some “times” I shoot in all three within a week’s time. Last week I did.

Some “times” I tear-up in the camera as I shoot emotional happenings as I did on 10^th Street in the District.

To capture those some times I am up before the paper is delivered to get a front row view of a page of history – one that won’t be repeated in my lifetime. Such was that time last week (April 15^th) on 10^th Street in DC to photograph the 150^th anniversary of the Lincoln assassination at the Ford’s Theatre.

Some “times” I can’t help but laugh into the camera.

To capture those some times I have to guess correctly and get in position to catch that hilarious moment like the one I photographed in Virginia this past week where I set up my camera on the third base side of a high school baseball game and watched as the 3^rd base coach windmill a speedy runner towards home only to see that off-balance runner round the bag, slip and plant his face into the ground.

Some “times” I need a good challenge, a second or third chance to get it right.

For those some “times” I wake up together with my working wife before the sun rises so that I can start a daylong shoot of 16 hours because I want to record some times in the Day In The Life in Montgomery County, Maryland. I did that this week.

To capture those times I make morning exercise walkers walk towards me in the sunrise, or I hand that one more piece of incoming mail to the attendance secretary and make her laugh, or angle to shoot a bartender as he perfects the perfected drink, or record a homemaker paint a painting (without the numbers), or a make a noted artist stop and pose among his art.

It is all in the photos of a day in some “times” of my life.
