Silver Spring Resident Turns 107 Years Old

Happy Birthday Dorothy Dworkin, a resident of Silver Spring turned 107 years old Tuesday. Her son, Bob Dworkin,  attributes her long life and health to “worrying about her children.”

Dworkin was born on July 24, 1911, and traveled to the Washington D.C. area at the young age of three.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau,  14 percent of residents in Montgomery County are 65 years of age or older. Dworkin has survived what more than 70 percent of residents have only read about in history books including the Prohibition Period, World Wars I and II, and when Congress passed and ratified the 19th amendment allowing women to vote.

“She still votes,” her son Bob said jokingly. “She’s feisty, sharp, and a person with a great sense of humor.”

Dworkin is the mom of three, grandmother of five, and the great-grandmother of five.
