Concert in Rockville to Benefit Hurricane Maria Victims

In an effort to raise money to rebuild communities in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria last year, a local nonprofit is hosting a series of concerts in the Washington D.C. metro area.

Vieques en el Corazon will hold a fundraising music tour from July 24 through July 29. The tour will feature Puerto Rico-based musician Fernando Madera to help the youth from Vieques, Puerto Rico rebuild their community, according to a news release.

“We’re doing this because all of Puerto Rico needs help, but especially Vieques,” said Monica Rivera, director and founder of Vieques en el Corazon.  “The island is a couple of miles away and to this day, residents are without electric. Power is running off of a generator and there are still transportation issues.”

One out of five tours will take place right here in Montgomery County on July 28 at 337 Lincoln Avenue in Rockville.

Tickets are $20 and couple tickets can be purchased for $30.  Proceeds from the concert, according to Rivera, will benefit residents in Vieques.
