Silver Spring Man Charged in Teenager’s Death
The suspicious death reported in Silver Spring this week has been determined to be a homicide, and Montgomery County police said Friday they have arrested someone in the case.
The victim is identified as 17-year-old Christian Leroy Matthews, who was found dead in the basement of his home in the 1000 block of Mondrian Terrace in Silver Spring.
Investigators arrested Tysean A. Lipford, 19, of 13th Street in Silver Spring on Thursday and charged him with the first-degree murder, according to a police statement. Lipford was identified as the father of the victim’s niece.
Police said residents of the home heard a loud commotion Tuesday coming from the basement and called 911.
Officers arrived at the home and searched it at the request of the occupants, the victim’s sisters, police said. The officers found Matthews unresponsive in his basement bedroom, police said. During an examination of the body, officers observed suspicious marks to the victim’s neck, police said. Fire and Rescue personnel took Matthews to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lipford is being held in lieu of bail, according to online court records.
