Second Pedestrian Killed on Rockville Pike in Two Day Period

Montgomery County Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Thursday evening on the Rockville Pike. This is the third pedestrian fatality of the year and the second pedestrian fatality on the Rockville Pike in a two day period.

According to a police statement, at 6:33 p.m. on Thursday, Rockville district officers, officers from Rockville City Police Department, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to reports about a serious pedestrian-involved collision on the Rockville Pike (Route 335) near Wootton Parkway.

Police say that a 2014 Honda Accord had been traveling southbound on Rockville Pike approaching Wootton Parkway when — for reasons still under investigation — the accord struck a man “who was attempting to cross Rockville Pike in a westerly direction.” The pedestrian died at the scene, police say.

Police have identified the driver of the Honda as Kathatorn Nonceeya, 61, of Rockville. Nonceeya and his passenger, a woman, were not injured from the collision, police say.

The pedestrian who was killed has been identified as 32-year-old Brett Badin of Rockville.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision and urge anyone with information to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
