SCUP Conference Welcomes Record Turnout (VIDEO)

The 15th annual School-Community United in Partnership (SCUP) conference set a record for attendance on Sept. 22 with over 350 participants at the Universities at Shady Grove. The event touts communication, collaboration and case coordination.

In this MyMCMedia Extra, SCUP Co-Chair Sally Katz tells us why the conference she founded back in 1999 is so popular today with participants and service providers.

Some of the topics covered at this year’s event, included: gangs in Montgomery County, substance abuse, community prevention programs, cyberbullying and bullying, school attendance interventions, cultural competence and the link to social emotional learning, suicide awareness, supporting homeless families, children fleeing violence, teen brain: why they don’t use it and more. The keynote speaker was Dr. Robert Balfanz of Johns Hopkins University who talked about using early warning systems to help all students graduate college career ready.
