Safe Silver Spring to Host Annual Legislative Forum
Safe Silver Spring will host its annual legislative forum on Thursday, January 7th. The meeting will take place in the spring room at the Silver Spring Civic Center which is located at 1 Veterans Plaza.
The major focus of the meeting will be gun safety legislative proposals that deal with domestic violence, police body cameras and sexual trafficking. The meeting is sponsored by Councilmember Marc Elrich, Executive Ike Leggett, Safe Silver Spring and Court Watch Montgomery.
Councilmembers Marc Elrich and Tom Hucker will speak during the event as well as State Senator Jamie Raskin, Delegate Kathleen Dumais and more.
“I look forward to meeting with the public, advocacy groups, and our state legislators to discuss how we can all work together to make our community a safer place to live,” said Councilmember Elrich in a press release. “These past few weeks have brought fresh and painful reminders that there is much work to be done, from strengthening our DUI laws to protect the public and our first responders, to proposing changes to gun safety laws, closing loopholes to protect victims of domestic violence, improving pedestrian safety and restoring voting rights to those who have served their time. The time to act together is now.”
