Rockville Swim and Fitness Center’s South Pool Renovation Starts This Week (Photos)

Rockville Swim and Ftness Center July 17 2015 5Rockville Swim and Fitness Center’s indoor South Pool will go through a major improvement project to replace the pool deck and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system.

According to a news release, the project cost of $2.1 million dollars is the pool’s first renovation since it was built in 1968. Although the project will come with short-term alterations to the swim and fitness center’s pool use schedule, the improvements will give swimmers a better experience at the facility in the long run.

The South Pool will remain closed for the next several months. Recreation and lap swim along with other programs will be offered at other locations within the complex- the indoor North Pool and outdoor Recreation and Fitness Pools. The city will extend the season for the outdoor Fitness Pool to accommodate users weather permitting. As the weather becomes colder, the impact on programs and operating hours will become more apparent.

Pool schedules through Aug. 23 are now available here. Schedules for the fall season will be posted later this summer

Holy cow! I can’t believe that this pool hasn’t been renovated ever since it was built in 1968. That is over forty years without renovation. That is way too long to go without renovation. No wonder it is going to take a while to renovate like the article says. There will probably be some needed repairs found along the way as well.

I remember when they built it! The contractor put on quite a show and promoted the facility at all the local schools. My friends and I had a blast that first summer it opened.

It is so nice that this pool is getting some renovations done, especially since it is quite old. I am sure that it will help it to look a lot nicer, which will probably bring in more people to go swimming. I would really like to get some renovations on the pool in my community, because ours is also quite old. The deck doesn’t look very good, and the pumps often stop working which makes it so that no one can swim until they are fixed. Do you have any advice on where to look for businesses that can help do renovations like this?
