Rockville Ranks High in National Study

Rockville Uncorked 3The city of Rockville has ranked as the 10th best place to live in the United States, based on a study by the website Livability.com.

Rockville’s demographics, amenities, housing, transportation options and the education
level of its residents were among the categories examined to determine the ranking.
Livability studied 1,700 cities with populations of 25,000 to 350,000 to come up
with its list of 100 best places to live in 2014.

“Rockville is a town that benefits from proximity to larger cities, as well as its
own and surrounding natural amenities,” Livability says. “It scored well for amenities
including a challenging and hilly golf course, and for social and civic capital
owing to an involved community and very low crime rate.”

Livability cited several “things to do” in Rockville that helped it earn its high
ranking. Among them were City-run events such as Hometown Holidays, Uncorked Wine
and Music Festival and the Antique and Classic Car Show, which takes place on Oct. 19
at Rockville’s Civic Center Park. The survey also mentioned the great restaurant options throughout Rockville, walking tours and access to amenities like the Red Gate Golf Course.

City Manager Barb Matthews said this recognition of Rockville as a great place to
live should make residents and those who work and play in Rockville proud.

“Those of us who spend time in Rockville know all that it has to offer,” Matthews
said. “This national recognition for Rockville as a great place to live is just
the latest confirmation of that. This speaks to all that the City government, businesses
and residents do to make this a place that people are happy to call home.”

One other Maryland city, Frederick, also ranked on the best places to live list, coming in at number 40.
