Rockville Man Charged after Assaulting Woman, Dog
A Rockville man faces several charges after assaulting a woman and his dog, police said Wednesday.
The man, 57, of the unit block of Alsace Lane, apparently struck the woman late Feb. 14 or the early morning of Feb. 15, acting police Chief Bob Rappoport said.
When the woman went to the doctor’s office to get care for her injuries, she told the physician how she was assaulted and that she was worried about the man’s dog, Rappoport said. The doctor called police about the incident and police sent a neighborhood service officer to check on the welfare of the dog.
The owner was “resistant” to the officer, and other officers arrived, he said.
“During the investigation, the dog had noticeable injuries, including blunt force trauma and puncture wounds … that were inflicted by a human,” Rappoport said.
The woman received a head injury that required some stitches, he said. The woman also said that during the incident the man disrobed and made inappropriate comments.
The dog has received care, and the man turned it over to Montgomery County, which is looking for a rescue to take it in, Rappoport said.
The man, arrested Feb. 18, has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, attempted second-degree sex assault, animal cruelty-torture of an animal, animal cruelty-failure to provide care, and aggravated cruelty to an animal, according to the Rockville Police crime summary.
He is being held without bail, according to online court records.
