Rockville City Councilmember Tom Moore has announced he will not seek reelection to a third term this fall.

“After much soul-searching, I have decided not to run for re-election to the Rockville City Council this fall,” Moore announced in an Aug. 14 campaign announcement posted online. ” I have cherished the privilege of serving the people of Rockville on their Council. But my family has paid a high price while I have campaigned and governed virtually nonstop over the past six years, and it is time for me to turn my attentions homeward.”

You may remember that just last year,  Moore ran for the District 3 Montgomery County Council seat. Sidney Katz won that race.

In a telephone interview today, Moore said that race took a lot of energy and time away from his family. Still, he will not rule out another possible run in 2018 as he said he expects a lot of changes on the county front. He said he will look at running for office again at that time.

Moore, who was first elected to the Rockville City Council in 2011, is proud of his accomplishments, including his work on ending the building moratorium, protecting affordable housing and passing the ethics law. In his online campaign announcement, he also thanked his friends and supporters and said he is looking forward to the upcoming 2015 election.

“You should know that I am very excited about some good folks who are preparing to run for office in Rockville this year,” he said. “You will be hearing much more from them in the coming weeks. Keeping Rockville such a wonderful place to live, work, and enjoy life requires dynamic, experienced, and forward-looking leadership. We will have the chance for just that this fall.”

Moore told MyMCMedia he will be endorsing some of those candidates in the upcoming city election as well.

The city of Rockville election is set for Nov. 3. The position of Mayor and four Council seats are up for reelection.
