Road Trip

ON THE ROAD: July 6 to 9, 2018

Road Trip!  We (my wife and I) were among the many Americans who took off for the road over the extended 4th of July holiday weekend.  When we planned this trip little did we know that the weather would turn out great.  In matter of fact up until Friday, July 6th the weather was a typical Mid-Atlantic summer swelter, hot and humid.

We planned this casual get away for two cities, Pittsburgh, my wife’s hometown and Cleveland for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  What a surprise for both of us.  A clear air Canadian High, with blue skies and breezy weather blanketed the northeast as well as parts of the western PA and northern Ohio.  Pittsburgh was great for viewing the City Triangle and the conjunction of the Three Rivers all day on Friday.

That evening we went to PNC Park to see the cross state rivals the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Bucs. Staying downtown we traveled the free underground rail to and from the park and our hotel.  What a great park with a great view of the city at sunset.  I bothered all my Instagram (@Photoloaf) followers with filtered iPhone image captures all evening long.  I had fun and add a few new followers in between innings.  We left the game after 8 innings to get ready for our Saturday morning trip across the PA and Ohio turnpikes to Cleveland.

As it was in Pittsburgh on Friday, the weather was great once again in Cleveland.  It’s a hard working port city on Lake Erie, but has a tourist magnet in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Home to where long past radio DJ, Alan Freed, first spun records he classified as “rock and roll” the Hall of Fame is a delight for all ages and all music tastes.  Two trips into the Hall of Fame and an evening sunset on Lake Erie were the particular highlights of the day.  After sunset my wife and I also was able to walk around center city not far from the FirstEnergy Stadium to see the changes that “The Forrest City” has endured.

We left for home early Sunday morning and found out that many like minded travelers had hit the road at the same time.  Many of us “heading south” met in Breezewood, PA and trekked slowly southbound on I-70 towards Frederick and the DMV.  Finally, after a few rest stops we had enough of the traffic and took a road less traveled home, heading WSW on MD 85 to Route 28.

As we do after many of our road trips we celebrated the return home with an order out from Mama Wok’s.

Long, Live, Rock and those long and winding roads.
