Riemer, Elrich Spar as Primary Season Winds Down

Council President Hans Riemer on Wednesday posted on Facebook that his colleague, Marc Elrich, is “backwards looking” on development.

“Time after time, I found myself … sparring with him over the need to make living here more affordable and attract more jobs to the county,” Riemer wrote.

Elrich is one of six Democrats running in Tuesday’s primary election, running for county executive, one of three councilmembers who are seeking a new office in the Executive Office Building.

Riemer’s post does not name who he supports in the county executive race, but he linked an entry from Greater Greater Washington, which has endorsed Councilmember George Leventhal in the race.

Riemer refused an on-camera interview request Thursday.

Elrich wasn’t so reticent. “Hans doesn’t know very much about zoning,” he said.

Here’s the full interview:

Key figures in the Democratic Primary, including County Executive Ike Leggett, have not come forward with endorsements.
