Riderwood Awards 65 Collegiate Scholarships to Employees
Riderwood honored 65 employees who received collegiate scholarships at an awards reception on April 21.
This year, the Riderwood Scholarship Program provided three high school students with $8,000 to be used over a period of four years ($1,000 per semester) and sixty-two recipients with $1,000 each semester for one year.
The program, funded mainly by resident contributions, raised nearly $193,000 in its spring campaign, according to Fiona Divecha, Philanthropy Manager for the Erickson Living retirement community. This year’s theme was Their Future is in Our Hands/Our Future is in Their Hands.
The Riderwood Scholarship Committee selected the scholars based on academic achievement, resident recommendations and a record of workplace excellence. The average age of the recipients is twenty-four, and they have been employed by Riderwood for at least two years.
The Committee consists of residents Levern Allen, Joan Barch, Erlyne Cooper, Lynne Curry, Ruth Davis, Louise Kerr, Judy Kneen and Jackie Pomeranz.
During the ceremony, Ange Tchouaga, a scholarship recipient employed in the Dining Services Department, provided student appreciation remarks, and Ms. Kerr spoke on behalf of the Scholarship Committee.
