Richard Montgomery Holds off Rockville 56-50

Rockville, MD: Friday, January 25, 2019

Ryan Cornish came on late in the 4th quarter to put up 11 of his 13 points

It was a battle of the bigs at Richard Montgomery (RM) as the Rockets held on late to defeat the Rockville Rams 56-50.  The 10th ranked RM Rockets found their height advantage was challenged by Rockville’s 6’10” Center, Jimmy Sorunke.  Behind by four at the half, the Rams could not close the gap in the third quarter. That left them in trouble in the fourth quarter even though they put up 19 points against the Rockets.  With less than 30 seconds left the Rams were down by the same 4 points 54-50 but was missing big man Sorunke.  Sorunke fouled out earlier in that fourth quarter Ram stretch.

RM’s Ryan Cornish put up 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter giving the Rockets the win as the Rams really had no defensive answer for him.  Miles Gally, the 6’8″ center for RM put up a game high 16 points.  Gally used his finesse under the basket to neutralize the larger Sorunke’s defensive efforts.  Kordell Lewis added 12 for RM while 6’5″ forward Will Davenport was held scoreless.

Rockville returns home for a Monday contest against Blake and RM travels to Gaithersburg to face the 13-3 Trojans at 7:15, @mymcmedia will be there for that matchup.
