UPDATED: Power Restored in Germantown

Pepco-stormUPDATED Over 1,900 Pepco customers in the Germantown area were without power for a couple of hours on Monday afternoon.

Pepco Spokesperson Bill Yingling said the cause of the outage was under investigation. At 1:15 pm. he said restoring power to customers as quickly, and as safely as possible, was the company’s first priorities.

One of the Germantown residents who lost power reported on MyMCMedia’s Facebook page that her electricity was restored shortly before 2 p.m. today.

So what caused the outage?

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer reported a transformer and pole fire along Clopper Road near Richter Farm Road in Germantown around 11:30 a.m. today. That was about the same time that hundreds of Germantown customers lost power.
