Poolesville Incident Ends in Assault Charge
A man who pointed a rifle at another man at a Poolesville house has been charged with assault, a Montgomery County police spokesman said Thursday.
Fernando Flores-Sandoval, 47, of the 15800 block of Budd Road, Officer Rick Goodale said.
Quoting the charging documents, Goodale said Flores-Sandoval was recently fired from a landscaping company. The victim, whom Flores-Sandoval pointed the rifle, owns the landscaping company and the house, and had come to tell Flores-Sandoval he would have to move, Goodale said.
Flores-Sandoval met the victim at the door, holding the rifle and told him to leave, Goodale said. The man fled the house and called police, Goodale said. That was about 1:15 p.m.
Police tried to call Flores-Sandoval at the house, but got no response. Because he was armed, police summoned a SWAT team, Goodale said.
Flores-Sandoval was later found on foot in the neighborhood. Goodale said he might not have been in the house when officers tried to call him.
About 25 police officers, including patrol officers, detectives and the SWAT members, responded to the incident, Goodale said. He said that for security reasons, the department would not release the equipment or vehicles deployed at the incident. He did say SWAT was conducting a training exercise in the area before the incident.
Poolesville High School was on lockdown for 29 minutes, a school system spokeswoman said.
