Poolesville Homeowner Fatally Shot Home Intruder

UPDATED Oct. 12 at 3:15 p.m.

Montgomery County Police identified the man who was shot as Harry Trueman Powell, 34, of Washington, D.C.  According to police, Powell had been sleeping the basement of the resident for awhile without the homeowner’s permission.

Monday morning, a Poolesville homeowner called the Montgomery County Emergency Communication to say that a male was trying to break into his home. While on the call, the homeowner fired at the intruder and killed him, according to Montgomery County Police.

The incident in the 1800 block of River Road in Poolesville occurred at about 9 a.m.

When police arrived, they found an adult male inside the home. Police interviewed the homeowner and is continuing the investigation.

Police do believe this was an isolated incident.
