Police Announce Charges in Shopping Center Shootings

Montgomery County police officers have charged the suspect in the shopping center shootings, Eulalio Tordil, with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and four counts of the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.

Police Arrest Suspect

Montgomery County police officers have arrested 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil for two separate shooting incidents that occurred Friday in Aspen Hill and Bethesda.

Police said at approximately 11:13 a.m., an off-duty officer at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda used his police radio to inform the dispatcher and other officers that a shooting had just occurred in the mall’s parking lot near the Macy’s store at the Westlake Drive entrance.

Additional officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded and located three shooting victims – two men and one woman. All three victims were transported to a local hospital.

Police said one man died from his injuries at the hospital. According to police, the second man is hospitalized in critical condition and the woman is listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., the Emergency Communications (911) Center received a call for the report of a shooting in the parking lot at the Giant grocery store located at 13781 Connecticut Avenue in Aspen Hill. Officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded. Police said a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a police account, officers who had responded to the shootings were aware of a wanted suspect, Eulalio Tordil, and a vehicle involved in a homicide outside of a high school in Prince George’s County on Thursday.

Police said the officers responding to the Aspen Hill shooting observed a vehicle that matched the description and tag number parked in the Northgate Shopping Center located at 3901 Aspen Hill Road. Police said plain clothes officers observed Tordil inside a business in the shopping center and began surveillance. When Tordil returned to his vehicle, police officers took him into custody without incident.

Tordil is currently being interviewed by detectives and charges are pending.

The Montgomery County Police Department is coordinating with the Prince George’s County Police Department regarding their investigation of Tordil and his involvement in a shooting outside of High Point High School in Beltsville yesterday.

Police said the identities of Friday’s homicide victims will be released once family members are notified. The surviving victims will not be identified at this time as they are witnesses. At this stage of the investigation, it is not known if there is any connection between the victims and Tordil.

The police investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released once it is confirmed.

Anyone with information regarding these shootings or Tordil is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.
