Police Officer Injured in Gaithersburg

police investigationUPDATED A Gaithersburg police officer was seriously injured as the officer responded to a call last night (March 15) at 10:22 p.m. in the 400 block of Christopher Avenue.

Gaithersburg Police Officer Dan Lane said the call originated from an earlier verbal altercation between two individuals.

“As police were speaking with the complainant outside, the suspect saw the complainant and charged towards him,” said Lane in an email. “In an attempt to restrain the suspect, the officer and suspect both fell into the glass panel at the front of the building, causing the glass to break. The glass broke into long shards and severely cut both the officer and suspect.”

Lane said both the officer and suspect were transported to area hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not identified the officer or the suspect. There is no word on charges at this time.

Lane said the incident remains under investigation.
