Police Investigating Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Fairland
Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that happened in Fairland on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to the collision on Greencastle Road at Pitcairn Place shortly around 5:45 pm.
During a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that a 2016 Chrysler 200 was traveling east on Greencastle Road near Pitcairn Place before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Investigators believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor to the collision.
Police say 30-year-old Gadivel Aviles Navarrete of Lanham was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Navarrete was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
