Police Investigating Shots Fired in Silver Spring

Montgomery County police are investigating gunshots that were fired during the early morning hours of June 9 in the central business district of Silver Spring.

No one reported being struck by the gunfire, police said.

Police now are releasing surveillance video of two men and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

About 1:10 a.m. June 9, Silver Spring police district officers responded to the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue for reports of the sounds of shots, police said.

Police spoke with several witnesses who said they had seen the men, one of whom was wearing a white shirt and armed with a handgun, chasing another man on Mayor Lane toward Silver Spring Avenue.

Witnesses said the man with the handgun fired multiple rounds at the one fleeing. The men were last seen on foot near Mayor Lane toward Thayer Avenue. Officers found two spent shell casings in the area.

Crime Solvers will pay a reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest.
