Police Investigating Potomac River Drowning
Montgomery County Police continue to investigate a drowning that happened in the Potomac River on May 31.
According to detectives, witnesses revealed that 26-year-old Franky Smith Gonzales Sapaico of Springfield, Virginia, was swimming in the river in the area of Scott’s Run when he went underwater and never resurfaced. Managed Search and Operations Team officers along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel searched for Sapaico that evening but could not locate him. Search operations continued until the evening of June 3.
On June 4, family members, who were also searching for Sapaico, located his body in the water near Scott’s Run and notified police, according to an MCPD press release.
Police did not say whether foul play is suspected.
