Police Investigating Olney Assault
Montgomery County police are investigating an assault that happened on Oct. 22nd. Police believe the incident is hate based.
According to police, at 2:50 a.m. officers responded to an assault in progress at the Greene Turtle bar and restaurant located at 18101 Town Center Drive.
Police said that a preliminary investigation revealed that a group of four people were at the bar through the later hours of the evening. There was also another larger group of people sitting toward the other end of the bar, police said.
As members of the larger group began to leave the restaurant at closing time, an adult male from that group took a glass of water, approached the other group of four people, and poured water on two of the males, according to police.
Police said that witnesses reported that the male referred to them in a derogatory manner in regard to sexual orientation and challenged them to a fight.
Both groups exited the restaurant and individuals from both groups were involved in an altercation in the parking lot, police said.
Fire and Rescue responded and transported two males to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the fight.
Police believe that they have identified the adult male suspect who poured water on the two victims and they continue to work to identify all those involved in this incident.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240.773.5530. Callers may remain anonymous.
The investigation continues.
