Police Investigate Severe Bike-Involved Collision in Gaithersburg
Montgomery County Police are investigating a severe bicycle-involved collision that happened in Gaithersburg on Friday night.
After further investigation, authorities determined that 36-year-old Jose Lopez Hernandez of Gaithersburg was riding his bike on Snouffer School Road near Sweet Autumn Drive. For reasons still under investigation, Hernandez collided with a car driven by Trevon Thacker, of Gaithersburg, who was traveling westbound on Snouffer School Road approaching Sweet Autumn Drive. Officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene shortly before 10:00 p.m.
According to an MCPD press release, Hernandez was not wearing a helmet, and his bicycle and clothing did not have reflective material.
Hernandez was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Thacker was not injured.
This collision remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
