UPDATED Montgomery County police officers are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 40-year-old man in Germantown that happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Police said Germantown resident William Palacios was transported to the hospital with multiple stab wounds from the 12900 block of Walnut View Court.

According to police, Palacios died from his injuries at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation, police said, indicates that Palacios and his girlfriend were in the parking lot in front of his residence when a suspect identified by police as Miguel Angel Rodriguez-Gaona of Gaithersburg appeared from behind some townhouses and confronted Palacios. Police said the two men argued and Rodriguez-Gaona stabbed Palacios numerous times with an unknown sharp object.

At noon on Wednesday, police said Rodriguez-Gaona was arrested in Baltimore. He is charged with first degree murder.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240.73.5070.
