Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Olney

UPDATED Montgomery County Police are investigating a one-vehicle fatal collision that occurred overnight at Hines Road at Blossom View Drive in Olney.

Police identified the victim as Lisa Ann Smith, a 43-year-old Olney resident, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver is identified by police as 29-year-old Robert Walter Lee of Gaithersburg. Lee was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries, police said.

The call came into dispatch at 4:11 a.m. on Sunday. Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer reported on his Twitter account that the vehicle in this collision was overturned.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Hines Road (towards Georgia Avenue) when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway just prior to Blossom View Drive and struck a tree and light support pole.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor in this fatal collision.

Police are advising motorists of road closures between Monitor Drive and Lafayette Drive in Olney while the collision reconstruction unit remains on the scene.
