ORIGINAL POST 6.27.16 Montgomery County police have arrested a third-grade teacher, accused of sexual offenses against two 11-year-old female students.

According to police, John Vigna, age 49, who taught at Cloverly Elementary School in Silver Spring, faces several charges including, sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree sexual offense. Police say the sexual abuse started in 2014 and lasted until February of this year.

Police said that on several occasions Vigna held a, now 11-year-old, girl on his lap and held her close while moving her back and forth on his lap. When the girl tried to leave, police said Vigna resisted letting her go.

Police also said that during a later incident which happened in February of this year, Vigna reportedly touched the same student, and a second 11-year-old female student on the buttocks. Vigna also allegedly made inappropriate contact when he hugged the girls, police said.

The police were contacted after one of the girls told her parents what allegedly happened. Vigna was put on administrative leave by Montgomery County Public Schools in February of this year and remained on leave through the rest of the school year, according to police.

Vigna turned himself in and was served an arrest warrant on June 27th. He is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.

Detectives are requesting that parents of students who had Vigna as a teacher, talk to their children about their interactions with him and contact Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) detectives at 240.773.5400 if they believe their child was victimized.
